FairPoint Communications Inc (Nasdaq:FRP), a provider of advanced communications in northern New England, announced on Tuesday its selection as CoverageCo's lead carrier in making cell service available across over 200 miles of rural Vermont.

This call service will initially be available in Orange county and later on in Lamoille counties.

Financial details of this selection were not available.

Reportedly, CoverageCo selected FairPoint based on the breadth and depth of its network in northern New England, and its ability to deliver business-class Internet service, a requirement to meet CoverageCo's small cell backhaul needs.

FairPoint is a leading wireless backhaul provider to major wireless carriers in the region and currently, its network reaches over 95% of all business addresses in northern New England.

Also, CoverageCo has received a USD0.5m grant from the Vermont Telecommunications Authority for a 90-mile project. CoverageCo expects to extend the project an additional 125 miles through its own investment.
